  • 5th grade is a very important time in a student's life. It is the beginning of a transitional time between elementary and middle school. My focus is to move students from learning to read to reading to learn. I also hope to teach students why writing is important and help them to enjoy writing. I use a lot of curriculum integration with science and social studies in my classroom writing and reading assignments. This is meant to give the students real word application for the reading and writing skills that they have learned.

Science is an integral part of my classroom. Science helps build skills in problem solving, working with others, independent thinking, writing/sharing, observation, and creativity. I believe that Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math (STEM) are the key to future advancements in our world. I want to give my students an edge by introducing these concepts at a early age. The best part about STEM is that students enjoy it. It doesn't get any better than that! I look forward to working with my new little scientists!
