    Dear Parents/Caregivers and Families:

It appears that spring is finally coming to Northwest Minnesota and I hope this letter finds you doing well. The purpose of this communication is to share information with you regarding the school calendar for the remainder of the 2018-19 school year.

For the first time since 2013-14 the Thief River Falls School District had to cancel school four full days due to inclement weather. According to the school calendar this resulted in two make up days for students.  However, at a Special Board Meeting on Monday, April 1st, 2019, the School Board approved an amended 2018-19 calendar that has only one student make up day and one day forgiven.

The amended calendar is as follows:

    Amended Calendar:

    Thursday, April 18, 2019

    Student and Staff Make-Up Day

    Monday, April 22, 2019

No School for Students or Staff

There have been questions asked regarding the Governor and Legislature forgiving missed school days and why do we have to make-up any days. Ultimately, we want the most number of days of instruction to help our students be as successful as possible.  In addition, the reason the Legislature and Governor are getting involved is because there are schools, especially those in the metro-area and southern Minnesota, that have missed 10 or more days and it would mean that students and staff would be going to school well into June.  We have not missed that many days and will be able to end our school year on the date we had originally planned when the calendar was approved.

Let’s hope that the remainder of the school year will be as scheduled.  If anything changes, I will be sure to let you know. Thanks very much for your understanding as well as your support.

    Sincerely,

    Bradley D. Bergstrom

    Thief River Falls Superintendent
